By now, you know the story: In 2010, local garden blogger (theyarden.com) LaManda Joy found a vacant lot in her Chicago neighborhood that had been a World War II Victory Garden. In just 6 weeks, with the help of gardeners and neighbors like you, we created Chicago’s largest edible community garden, with 150 families growing their own organic produce, plus ten “Grow2Give” beds fcoused on donating to local nutrition programs.
You, and gardeners like you, are helping us make urban gardening the norm—not the exception.
In 2012, we'll put in another 1,000 plots. Fifty of those plots will be part of our Grow2Give program, with all the produce, potentially nearly 1,500 pounds, going to our nutrition partner, the Albany Park Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program.
In other words, we’ll feed almost a thousand families, and provide fresh organic produce for dozens of low-income children and moms.
